CCTV tower - thwarted design to democratize China TV
Leaders of the Dutch architecture studio OMA say they embedded an ultra-egalitarian, utopian interaction loop in the design of the CCTV tower to guarantee Chinese and global citizens exploring the futuristic structure could have chance encounters with broadcasting leaders, actors and filmmakers ensconced inside. But the tower's perimeter is now sealed off by rings of the inner party's paramilitary troops and surrounded by a matrix of surveillance telescreens.
